Mexican driver Esteban Gutierrez will not return to Formula 1. He puts foreword his career in Formula E.
The 25-year-old Gutierrez drove last season for the new F1 team “Haas F1”. But did not drove even a single time good enough to get points. Gutierrez has to go, and was hoping to get on team “Sauber” But unfortunate for him the German Pascal Wehrlein will go there. The German was driving for team Manor. But it is high likely that Manor will not exist next season because of financial problems.
So Gutierrez is therefore forced to look elsewhere to race, last Monday the organization came up with the announcement that Gutierrez will race in the Formula E the world championship for electric sport cars. ,
Gutierrez said at the conference "Well I’m very happy to be here and to finally make the announcement of my future plans. I feel very grateful to Alejandro and Alberto, which we've both known each other for a very long time and now we can work together in this new path."
He added: "I’ve been always watching and following Formula E, because of my relationship with Alejandro. I have always been following his projects and Formula E being one of them. I have been very impressed at how the category has grown, electric cars are the future of mobility in the cities, so it is a very interesting way of how the innovation is being pushed through the category. I'm delighted to now be a part of it."
His old team Haas F1 Will drive further with Kevin Magnussen as a new driver and the current driver Romain Grosjean will keep driving for the team.
